(See also post from August 27 below). The following is translated from\u00a0 Rabbi Dov’s Yiddish. He asks me to stress:<\/p>\n

  1. \u00a0Yom Kippur fast starts at 6.58pm on Friday evening (all eating to stop by then).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fasting (no food or drink) and davening (praying ) are the main themes of the day<\/li>\n
  2. \u00a0Challah, soup, chicken, potato, kugel and kreplach,\u00a0 to start the fast will be availablet the house of the secretary starting at 5:00pm (please confirm by email)<\/li>\n
  3. 6:50pm at shul to partake of the ancient custom of lighting\u00a0 the so-called lebadig light (the candle of lifr, or or chaim). One per family (please all join in).<\/li>\n
  4. \u00a0Please\u00a0 light a yahrzeit candle (24 hour candle) at home for\u00a0 your\u00a0 deceased parent\/s (n\/a if your parents are still living).<\/li>\n
  5. It is tradition not to wear leather shoes (the rabbi will explain the reason for this)<\/li>\n
  6. Those who come to the secretary’s home will partake of the ancient custom of kapparot <\/em>there. Otherwise please bring a few pennies to do this at the shul before the onset of the Fast..<\/li>\n
  7. At the end of the Fast (about 8.00pm Saturday evening), there will be a brief evening service (Maariv). Following this there will be light refreshments at the shul to break the fast.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Parking: On Liverpool Street in ordinary one hour parking bays. \u00a0<\/strong> On this day (and this day alone)\u00a0 parking restrictions are lifted, and you can stay as long as you need (or, more precisely, as long as we need you!). But not on Yellow Lines, nor in Resident Parking Bays<\/strong>\u00a0 (Hashem is\u00a0 generous, but not completely tolerant.)<\/p>\n

    Rabbi Zalman adds: There will be a sukka and Sukkot celebrations on Sunday 22 September at the synagogue 3-5pm.
