{"id":687,"date":"2018-08-27T15:32:44","date_gmt":"2018-08-27T15:32:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sotonhebrew.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=687"},"modified":"2018-09-17T09:03:29","modified_gmt":"2018-09-17T09:03:29","slug":"high-holiday-services-20185779","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sotonhebrew.org.uk\/?p=687","title":{"rendered":"High Holiday services 2018\/5779"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>General Information<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We will be running services over the High Holiday period at the synagogue, Mordaunt Road, Southampton SO14 6FW.<\/li>\n<li>All are welcome, including those who would not usually worship according to the styles customarily adopted by Southampton Hebrew Congregation (or actually even worship at all).<\/li>\n<li>Attendance is of course free, although it is not forbidden to give a donation.<\/li>\n<li>You do not need to reserve seats beforehand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Yom Kippur<\/strong><b> (11 Tishrei 5779):<\/b><br \/>\nServices to be led by Rabbi Dov Katzel from Chabad (who has led High Holiday services in Southampton for many years now).<br \/>\nI hope we can have a big attendance to welcome back Rabbi Dov, who will be bringing a few religiously knowledgeable colleagues to encourage us in our worship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kol Nidre:<\/strong> Tuesday 18 September.\u00a0 Fast starts 6.59pm.\u00a0 Kol Nidre service 7.30pm (including sermon)<br \/>\n<strong>Yom Kippur Day services: <\/strong>Wednesday 19 September:<br \/>\nUsual set of services during the day, according to the <i>Minhag Angli<\/i>. Usual break in the middle. Dov&#8217;s charismatic interventions.<br \/>\n<strong>(Very) approximate timing:<\/strong> Shacharit <b>10 am;<\/b> Torah reading: <b>11:30 am;\u00a0 <\/b><br \/>\nSermon: <b>12:00 pm; <\/b>Yizkor: 1<b>2:15 pm;\u00a0 <\/b>Musaf: <b>1.30 pm<\/b>; Break<b> 2.30-5.00pm <\/b><br \/>\nMinchah<b> 5.00pm<\/b>, Neilah <b>7.00pm<\/b>, Fast ends <b>7.58pm.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>Refreshments:<\/strong> \u00a0courtesy of the rabbi, will be available after the fast ends.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parking on Rosh Hashanah and\u00a0 Yom Kippur: <\/strong><br \/>\nYou\u2019re not supposed to come by car\u2026. <i>But if you do<\/i>, thank you for coming! We don\u2019t want to discourage you.<br \/>\nParking restrictions on<b> Liverpool Street<\/b>\u00a0(cross street from Mordaunt Road, \u00a0just by the synagogue)\u00a0 should be suspended, so long as you park in a parking bay (i.e. not on yellow lines).\u00a0 Alternative parking spots (11 minutes walk) but with fewer restrictions on Cemetery Road on the south end of Southampton Common.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sukkot<\/strong><br \/>\nAnnual Sukkah Building and Family Party<br \/>\n<strong>Thursday, 27th September<\/strong><br \/>\n5:30 &#8211; 8pm. In the shul.<br \/>\nDinner in the Sukkah.
